Final Call - NEC Elections 2020

Do You Have That Extra to Give?

Tri-annual NEC elections, postponed from July due to COVID-19, will take place in October this year. Successful candidates will take up the post on 1st November 2020 and hold the position (subject to rules) until no later than 31 July 2023.

Any member who meets the NCOA rules of eligibility may stand for election to the NEC although it is desirable to have previous / current experience of undertaking the role of a rep. All candidates must be prepared to undertake all training, as and when required, in order to remain upskilled.

Roles Requirements

The role of an NEC officer is to:

  • Deliver the NCOA objectives & decisions
  • Negotiate policies / terms & conditions
  • Communicate effectively with members
  • Negotiate on pay
  • Recruitment of members
  • Adhere to NEC Governance
  • Represent the NCOA at Informal / Formal Recognised management meetings
  • Undertake to complete motions passed at Annual Delegates Conference

Some NEC ‘duties’ carry a degree of employer facility time (work can be carried out during a working day) however, NCOA ‘activities’ are not subject to facility time and work is invariably carried out in the officers’ own time.

Should you feel that you have the requisite qualities to give to the NCOA in an executive capacity, then you should complete the accompanying candidate form together with the names of two nominees. Due to COVID-19, electronic signature/names will be accepted. Your expression of interest must be received by Membership by close of play on Friday 11 September.

In the case that an election is required (more than 10 applicants) then each candidate will be required to complete an election statement ahead of the vote in October. A full list of rules concerning elections and eligibility to the NEC can be read at www.ncoa.org.uk/policies
