Restrictions on Subsistence Claims Averted

11/21/2013

Changes to the Travel & Subsistence policy were discovered by NCOA negotiators following the NCOA becoming recognised for consultation on the 12th August.

The proposals would have changed the current subsistence `allowance` to a receipted and `actual` claim and also restricted the claimable element to any excess cost above and beyond normal expenditure for a meal irrespective of whether the claim arose from a purchase made away from the normal workplace.

The NCOA highlighted the difficulties that this would create for line managers who would be tasked to identify individual eating habits and the additional bureaucracy involving the collation and production of receipts.

Management acknowledged the concerns raised by the NCOA and agreed to remove the proposed new requirements.
