NCOA SEEK MIN 10% UPLIFT FOR ALL NCA PROMOTIONS

At last week’s meeting of the Joint Negotiating and Consultative Committee (JNCC), the NCOA were alone amongst the Trade Unions in challenging the agency to commit to a minimum 10% uplift in pay for all internal promotions.

During the last G1 recruitment and promotion exercise the agency chose to apply an exception to current operating procedures which allowed for internal candidates to move to either the G1 pay range minimum or receive a 10% pay increase on promotion (whichever was the greatest). NCOA members will be aware that current NCA policy normally only allows for a 5% increase, with the exception of those moving from G3 to G2 and in recognition of  the loss of paid overtime.

Whilst accepting that this was a pragmatic decision taken by the NCA to bring the pay of G1’s in line with suitable comparators, we have been consistent in seeking that this process set a precedent for all NCA promotions. We are now pleased to report that the agency have agreed to a review of the promotion pay mechanisms, which will hopefully result in all future promotees receiving a minimum 10% uplift and those officers who have only recently been promoted including those who were successful in the recent G4 to G3 process receiving appropriate back pay.

Your NEC will keep you updated on these matters, which is hoped will be concluded by the end of 2019.
