In February 2025, the NCOA ran its first ever Work & Wellbeing Survey - the results made for interesting reading with a clear picture emerging from an overworked workforce who felt issues raised were often not given the attention or response they deserved.
Such was the impact of the evidence provided to us through this survey that we put the results to the Agency to both assess their reaction and then see what their response might be. In fairness to the NCA they accepted many of the key issues raised and also made a bold commitment to work hard to make things better for staff. Whilst change would obviously not happen overnight, a decision was made to re-run the survey a year later to understand what it felt like on the ground for members of the NCA workforce particularly after the Agency had taken action.
Well, here we are, after what is actually 16 months since the initial survey was sent out, to see whether things have improved or not, when focussing on the work and wellbeing of NCOA members tasked with targeting serious and organised crime affecting the UK & NI - and beyond. This is against a backdrop of the NCA now being positioned to form part of a newly designed National Police Service and recent evidence within the Agency's 2026 HMICFRS inspection report which echoes the excessive workload complaints detailed in our own survey and also feedback from officers who felt that the Agency didn't adequately manage their wellbeing.
The 2026 Work and Wellbeing Survey is now at the half way point and will stay open until the 13th July to ensure that everyone has ample opportunity provide a response which reflects their own experience within the Agency. Once closed, we will analyse the findings and engage with the Agency to compare the results from last year and also ensure that continuing challenges are addressed and opportunities aren’t missed.
