NEC Elections 2023

Do You Have That Extra to Give?

NCOA tri-annual NEC elections will take place in between June - July this year. Successful candidates will take up the post following the ADC in October and hold the position (subject to rules) no longer than 3 years.

Any member who meets the NCOA rules of eligibility may stand for election to the NEC which dictates that any candidate must be a current trained rep although there is no restriction regarding time in post. All candidates must be prepared to undertake training, as and when required, to remain upskilled.

Applications are encouraged from female reps, officers identifying as LGBTQIA+, from underrepresented backgrounds and officers with disabilities.

Role Requirements

  • Deliver the NCOA objectives & decisions
  • Recruitment of members
  • Negotiate policies / terms & conditions
  • Communicate effectively with members
  • Negotiate on pay
  • Adhere to NEC Governance
  • Represent the NCOA at Informal / Formal Recognised management meetings
  • Undertake to complete motions passed at Annual Delegates Conference

Some NEC ‘duties’ carry a degree of employer facility time (work can be carried out during a working day) however, NCOA ‘activities’ are not subject to facility time and work is occasionally carried out in the officers’ own time.

Should you feel that you have the requisite qualities to give to the NCOA in an executive capacity, then you should complete a candidate application form together with the names of two nominees (who must be NCOA members) -electronic signature/names will be accepted. Applications can be obtained by emailing membership@ncoa.org.uk

Your expression of interest must be received by Membership by 5pm on Friday 9th June 2023.

In the case that an election is required (more than seven applicants) then each candidate will be required to complete an election statement ahead of the membership ballot in July. A full list of rules concerning elections and eligibility to the NEC can be read at www.ncoa.org.uk/policies or you may request a copy emailed to you at your NCOA nominated email address.

If you would like to speak in confidence, then you may call me at any time to discuss.
